FIELD NOTE:

Plan ahead for healthy herds in Spring

One of the most vital aspects of farming is animal health, and that’s especially true in spring which is traditionally a farmer’s busiest time of the year.

Vitalise field representative Alex Lond says that to ensure they make the most of their precious time, farmers should be planning for spring now to ensure they are as efficient as possible with the hours they have.

‘‘Using every second wisely is an absolute necessity for all dairy farmers, as well as making sure their staff are happy and not working longer than they need to be.

That’s where Vitalise can help. It is a range of pelletised mineral supplements for dairy cattle — an easily-used and palatable way to ensure your livestock has the calcium, magnesium, and trace elements it needs.

All the pellets are manufactured in New Zealand and can be certified organic.

Free-flowing in-shed feeding

with zero waste

A more accurate way to deliver the minerals your cows are missing

‘‘Vitalise animal nutrition ensures that cows receive exactly what they need throughout the season in the most efficient way, through your in-shed feed,’’ Alex says.

‘‘Just like how your feed turns up on farm, Vitalise can be delivered and immediately transferred into a silo or mineral dispenser and then not thought about again until the next delivery.

‘‘It gets to work straight away from the first milking and reduces what can be a timely task getting all the correct minerals into a herd through dusting or a water source.

Introducing Vitalise Springer S

‘‘Our newest blend, Vitalise Springer S, is an effective blend safe for both springers and lactating cows, ensuring a smooth transition from winter to spring,’’ Alex says.

‘‘Then, once your cows are all calved, we can provide anything from straight calcium pellets to calcium, magnesium and trace elements to cover the entire nutritional requirements of a herd.’’

Vitalise is produced by Kiwi company CP Lime Solutions, driven by the desire to make natural, healthy, biologically friendly products that simply work.

Less is more when it comes to supplementing dairy herd’s diet

‘‘Vitalise uses highly bioavailable elemental ingredients, allowing for a ‘less is more’ ethos,’’ Alex says.

‘‘Research and customer feedback have shown that by using all-natural, high-quality, ultra-fine calcium and magnesium at an accurate dose rate, customers are able to achieve and maintain sufficient mineral levels in their herds all season from as little as 100g per cow per day.’’

Farmers who include fodder beet in their cattle’s diet are well catered for.

‘‘Our Vitalise CalMag + DCP is the most popular blend to prevent any mineral deficiencies caused by fodder beet during the autumn’’ Alex says.

‘‘For anyone looking to prevent bloat and ketosis, improve in-calf rates as well as milk protein production, our Vitalise CalM- ag + Rumenox is the obvious answer.’’

What do your cows need to stay happy and healthy?

Alex, who is passionate about the dairy sector and loves talking about all things cows with farmers, is happy to discuss how Vitalise can improve your herd’s health within your system.

Alex can walk you through how the products work and how the pellets can be customised to meet your vet’s advice.
