A palatable dose of livestock health

Grazing alone often isn’t enough. Sheep need precise mineral support to maintain fertility, wool strength, and overall health. Lactating ewes need Calcium and Magnesium to avoid metabolic issues and return to top condition.

Vitalise pellets are designed to deliver a free-feeding dose directly from in-paddock feeders to keep your flock in tip-top condition.

These pellets pay you back in healthy animals and time saved.

Why Vitalise for sheep?

A self-regulating supplementation designed to be fed ad-lib in the paddock

Results show a significant reduction in metabolic issues

Made in New Zealand from high-quality ingredients

How Vitalise for sheep works

Small Pellets. Big Impact.

Vitalise Sheep delivers a balanced blend of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, copper, cobalt, selenium and iodine – topping up the essential minerals grazing can lack.

Sheep recognise the pellets contain essential minerals and will readily eat them when needed.

High-quality ingredients are micronised and pressed into pellets so you can deliver a free-feeding dose directly from in-paddock feeders and your flock has the minerals they need when they need them.

I'm very impressed with this product. It made a major difference to my ewes this spring, backed by trial results: clear reductions in metabolic issues, higher blood magnesium levels, and significantly higher ewe weight gain. This is a product I am incorporating into my own farm management every year.

Field trials: energy, health, and zero metabolic cases

Trials on lactating ewes at Isherwood Research Station showed clear differences in flock vigour and overall health.

  • No further cases of hypocalcaemia occurred once the supplement was introduced. Metabolic issues were present in the main flock before the trial started.
  • The Vitalise group showed no signs of stress. The control group showed the classic signs of lagging behind, lying down, or attempting to hide in scrub.
  • The supplemented ewes gained weight – almost 5kg more than the control ewes (see table opposite). The trial group had sufficient calcium and could avoid ‘milking off their own backs’.

What goes into each pellet?

Deficiencies, especially in Calcium and Magnesium, cause sheep to go down with metabolic issues like hypocalcaemia (sleepy sickness) and hypomagnesemia (grass staggers) and lead to more interventions.

Macro and micro minerals needed for healthy maintenance include Calcium, Magnesium and Trace Elements. We use only high-quality ingredients and our blends can be certified organic.

Talk to your nutritionist or vet about the specific minerals your flock may be missing, especially when combining Vitalise with other forms of nutrient supplementation.

How to feed Vitalise

Vitalise pellets are designed for hassle-free feeding in the paddock. Because sheep naturally self-regulate their mineral intake, feeding is simple, flexible, and cost-effective.

Feed to Demand

Start by putting out a small amount (a 1 to 3 day supply) and monitor consumption:

  • Eating quickly? Top it up while demand is high.
  • Slowing down? Once they've satisfied their deficiency, give them a break until demand returns.

In paddock feeders

  • Covered Troughs: Open-access, covered feeders shield pellets from direct rain, meaning you can safely leave them out in the paddock continuously.
  • Open Containers: If using shallow, open containers (like a cut-down drench tub), feed out during dry spells and move them under cover during rain.
  • Avoid Hoppers: Do not use automatic hopper feeders, as internal moisture can track up the chute and clog the pellets.

Feeding rates

The recommended dose is 10 g/hd. The Isherwood trial fed around half a kilogram per lactating ewe over spring (400-500g).

This simple approach keeps pellets fresh and eliminates waste. While wet pellets will dry out again, sheep don’t like them too mushy or hard.

We used Vitalise with our ewe lamb replacements this season. It was interesting to see the difference in demand which tells me the lambs were “self medicating”. We'll definitely use it next season with lambs as soon as they're weaned. We believe having the Vitalise mix on demand in weather proof feeders will ensure every opportunity of growth and development.
